Youth Week
2nd - 7th August 2009

We look forward to your entries for 2009 Parkstone Yacht Club Youth Week, sponsored this year by CHARD LETTING. New for this year is a RS200 class start and we have continued the Pico class start for OnBoard members from local clubs.

This year’s programme owes much to the 12 year evolution of the event, and the huge effort of previous volunteer organisers.

Whilst the event positively welcomes visitors it remains, at heart, a club event, organised by club members and run by parent volunteers for its youth sailors. We will require as many parents as possible to help run the event, with tasks from crewing safety and committee boats to serving lunches and acting as beachmaster’s assistants.

If there is any change of emphasis for 2009, it has been to increase the number of races, especially in the senior fleets, and to simplify the entertainment programme somewhat, but keeping the firm favourites like WaterWars, Human table football, Splashdown, AB crabbing and the fancy dress party/prize giving.

Lunches will be simpler this year, still in the AB shed, but with an easier menu of pasties, chips, baked potatoes, salads, fruit and yoghurts. There is flat rate option of £20 for competitors’ lunches for the week, which includes the Monday evening BBQ. On the Orange (senior) course all racing scheduled for the day will be back to back, which means pack-lunches will be provided on the water on Tuesday and Thursday if you buy the lunch option.

The entry fee includes the BBQ for competitors and all entertainment.  Extra tickets for the BBQ (for parents) and the hog roast will be available at registration.

The bacon buttie stand will be open each day for pre-sailing grub.

Registration is being condensed to 10.30-Noon on Saturday 1st August, and there will be a volunteering booth to fill all those last minute vacancies for parents jobs needed to make the week run.  You will be aware that the club rules dictate that all under 16 yr olds are supervised whilst on club premises. This means that parents are expected to be present, or that there are robust ‘in loco parentis’ arrangements in place. Please do not enter your children for Youth Week if you cannot meet this requirement.

The limited edition YW09 T-shirt will be free this year to all those entered before 1st July 2009.

Entry forms are available from the club office or download from the link below.
