Parkstone is currently the first club on the South Coast to join the RYA OnBoard scheme to provide opportunities to sail to youngsters who otherwise would not have had the chance.

In October the first 20 youngsters from Baden Powell Middle School spent a day in our training Wayfarer, Pico's lent by Laser and members' boats and despite a vigourous wind their experience was very positive and made headlines in the Evening Echo's sailing column on 3rd November.

The club is now committed to taking up to 20 new OnBoard members. To get the most out of this opportunity we now need to

  • Obtain at least four Laser Pico's so that the youngsters without their own boats get the sailing time
  • Develop additional instructors at every level, especially young members
  • Set up the support organisation including an OnBoard co-ordinator to  lead volunteers

More news is available from the RYA website. but the best link is to OnBoard's own site at http://www.ruob.co.uk/.

Meanwhile to learn more contact Nick Hill, the PYC Senior Sailing Instructor. he is especially interested to hear of potential sponsors for the additional Laser Pico's we need to buy.
