The Cadet is a two-handed dinghy, with spinnaker, specifically designed for the under 18s. It is sailed world-wide and has a strong National Class Association organizing events at various levels throughout the year. The boat is very well mannered and provides the perfect development route for those starting as crews to progress into helming as experience and confidence grows. Typically crews start at 8 – 9 years of age, and helms 11 – 13.
Parkstone has a healthy home fleet (Squadron 66), with a mixture of abilities ranging from those just starting out to others challenging for selection to the UK World Championships Team. Racing takes place every Sunday morning between Easter to Christmas, with less formal evening sessions on Fridays and every other Tuesday during the summer months. For those wishing to try out a Cadet, the fleet have two club boats that can be booked through Simon Flack.
