Protecting our property Boatwatch is the volunteer night security service for the Club. Members, ideally those who live locally, participate in a rota to act as nightwatchmen. Individuals or teams of two are equipped with all necessary security and safety equipment and clothing and patrol the yard and the Haven during the evening and night. During the season qualified crews use the Nelsons or "Parkstone Pearl" to patrol our moorings as well. The Boatwatch service co-operates closely with the Dorset Police Marine Section, other Harbour users and the Harbour Commissioners to review harbour crime levels and co-ordinate crime prevention and detection. This has been very successful in recent months and crime in the Parkstone YC area has been very low indeed. We do of course rely on having sufficient members on the rota that no-one has to sacrifice too many evenings. We aim to schedule volunteers every two to four months and take account of their wishes as to whether they work alone or in pairs and which nights they prefer. Duty Boatwatchers are in constant contact with the Police and Harbour Control and their safety is our first care If you are not on the Boatwatch rota and wish to join in, please contact Steve Lawrence or the office and we will arrange initial training. Level 2 Powerboat or Advanced Powerboat certificate holders are particularly welcome. Please do advise us if you change your email address or 'phone number. It is also most helpful if you indicate to the office that you wish to join the Boatwatch on the annual Combined Application Form.
