Lymington Weekend

Lymington 2^nd and 3^rd May Terrence O’Rourke Sponsored weekend

Well the second event of the PYRA season got under way in dramatic style – Eclipse retired and had to be towed back to Poole YC by Soulmate with a suspected engine fire. Saltmead never even left the Pontoon from Poole as she had a rope around her prop and required a diver to clear it. At least she was able to rejoin the fleet making up time as the wind had freshened and she had an exciting sail up to the Dan Bran Pontoon in Lymington for the rendezvous Poor Eclipse was unable to make the event. We also had Class 5 (multi hulls) joining us for the first passage race of the season

The R.V. was a great success as people mingled on each others boats before setting off for the official R.V. at Lymington Town sailing club where a generous bar allowance from the sponsor Terrence O’Rourke got the evening off to a lively start. The LTS served a hearty racing night type meal for nearly 100 people although I believe those that were late to eat did not do quite so well.

The following morning the wind had a touch of North in it which gave us a straight drag race home with the wind fluctuating from 8 knots to 20 meant that the fleet stayed comparatively compact and all finished close together. I believe Firestarter did manage to make up the difference and was first over the line. (Sorry class 5 but I think you were all home with the kettle on by the time the rest of us made it to the line). The results will make interesting reading but Saltmead was pleased to finish without further mishap and what is more in the middle of the fleet.
