Monday Evening Handicap Scoring

Background

A desire was expressed at the 2007 Shrimper AGM to develop a scoring system which would:

- reward competition in the middle and back of the fleet

- allow more competitors to win prizes

- attract non racing Shrimper owners to racing

Basis

Handicap score for a series to be based on the actual net score after discard as follows;

Sh=Sn- HxR

Where :

Sh   is the handicap score

Sn is the actual net score after discard.

R  is the number of undiscarded races sailed

is a  handicap factor which is a competitors average score over a  number

   of previous races

      The handicap winner is the competitor with the lowest handicap score.

      This system works by subtracting the competitors expected score (based  on his/her average performance over a number of previous races) from the net score. So  competitors will have a handicap score of zero if they perform exactly to form and a negative score if their performance has improved.

Rules for Calculating the Handicap Factor

1. Race scores shall be averaged over the previous 2 series.

2. Only race scores without penalty to be included in the average i.e. DNC,DNF, DSQ  etc. to be excluded.

3. Competitors with less than 5  non penalty race scores  to count will be assigned 0 handicap factor .
