RYA Advanced, Level 2, Instructors & Safety Boat Courses
All these courses are available only to club members and can be booked through the club office. The courses are scheduled to fit in with the busy schedule of club racing and events. The current costs for these courses are Advanced Powerboat - TBC
Safety Boat - £60
Powerboat Level 2 - £60 Level Two Powerboat
This course follows the RYA syllabus and covers driving skills for powerboats such as the club RIBs and Nelsons. The course includes basic navigation, collision regulations (IRPCS) and pilotage. The club can award this certificate with a coastal endorsement for candidates demonstrating the appropriate level of skill and knowledge in these areas. To drive a club boat you must hold a qualification of at least this level. Courses generally take place over a weekend, all day saturday and sunday. The courses have a significant practical content.
Courses are also run in other formats, especially over evenings in the summer. Course dates (2009) January 24/25

This course follows the RYA syllabus and covers the techniques for effective safety cover for racing dinghies and other craft. The course has a significant practical content which covers the recovery of crew in the water and dinghies sailed at Parkstone, including catermerans, single handers, skiffs and conventional dinghies. The course also covers the management of safety fleets for racing events and the identification and mitigation of risks in the sailing area. This is particularly relevent in a sailing area such as Poole Harbour. Courses generally take place in the Autumn over three days
Friday evening - shore based lectures and preparation
Saturday - all day mainly water based practice

Note: All Candidates Must hold a Powerboat Level 2 qualification. The candidates are expected to be confident RIB drivers as these are the main club safety boats. This course includes chart work navigation at night. This course is generally held in support of specific club requirements.
