Q: What brought you to the Flying Fifteen fleet?
A: "Dragged kicking and screaming" by the Fireballs jumping fleet, it took a few of them and it was that or no sailing. Maybe it was the prospect of some big fleet racing again, let's go with that!
Q: Tell me about your sailing history
A: Started in Cadets @Parkstone in the 80's, did some national/international events for a few years and then got too big. Sailed Sophisticated Lady (IYKYK) for a year or so before heading off to Uni. Spent a couple of summers crashing through various nationals and Europeans before dropping out of sailing for nearly 20 years and misspending my youth! I've been back at PYC since 2010, but don't travel as much now and nowhere near as competitive anymore!
Q: What has been your best sailing experience to date?
A: In recent times (not that recent now) - screaming down to Swanage and back in a Fireball in around 90 mins.
Q: What has been your worst sailing experience to date?
A: Failing to secure the win in the above Swanage race as the boom clipped the water in the swash on the way back...(well done Martin C!)
Q: What is the best boat you have sailed?
A: I've tried more than my fair share I think over the years, but always kept sneaking back to Fireballs.
Q: Upwind or downwind?
A: Upwind definitely!
Q: Light or strong winds?
A: Either, I just don't like the bit in the middle!
Q: Harbour or Bay?
A: Bay as long as it’s not a drifter.
Q: Your favourite music genre?
A: Old school Techno
Q: Your favourite drink?
A: Tea, by the gallon.
Q: What would your last meal be
A: No idea, probably start with a pint before deciding.
Q: Something about you that might surprise others
A: I did actually make the sausage rolls in January, it wasn't Tess (also I used to have hair long enough I could sit on).
Q: What would be your walk-on song?
A: The Chances of anything coming from Mars
Q: What one record would you save from the waves?
A: Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds, the only record I own!
Q: You’ve already got the bible, what other book would you choose?
A: I don't (and never will) own a Bible, that gives me two right?
Q: What’s trendy now that you think is ridiculous?
A: Open water swimming!
