Overview
Parkstone Yacht Club is seeking a motivated and reliable Yard Operative to join our skilled Yard and Haven team. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in marine yard operations.
This physical role involves hands-on maintenance, boat handling, safe yard operations, and supporting club activities throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
Yard & Haven Operations
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe Yard and Haven environment, reporting any faults or hazards immediately.
- Assist with the upkeep, setup, and correct storage of cradles, including maintaining bottle screws.
- Follow all Health & Safety guidelines and maintain awareness of working risks within the Haven and Yard.
- Assist the Yard Foreman with painting, maintaining the boat lifter, lifting masts, and completing general tasks as required.
Boat Handling & Maintenance
- Carry out polishing, painting, antifouling, and other boat maintenance to a high standard.
- Safely move, lift, and handle boats, following proper lifting procedures and Health & Safety guidelines.
- Drive and refuel Club and Member boats as required.
- Provide support on the water when on stand-by for any issues involving Member or Club boats.
Equipment Operation (Training will be provided if not already qualified)
- Operate the Manitou telescopic handler in accordance with safe working practices.
- Operate the Wise Boat Hoist safely once trained.
- Take delivery of pallets from trucks once competent in vehicle/telehandler use.
Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to all COSHH regulations when using chemicals and ensure safe handling at all times.
- Attend all required training courses, modules, and safety briefings.
Event Support
- Support Poole Week with patrol boat driving, attending briefings, laying marks, and liaising with the PRO.
- Assist the Bosun and the Club’s Events Team as required.
Required Skills & Experience
- RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification.
- Practical skills in boat maintenance (painting, polishing, antifouling).
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively within a team.
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach.
- Knowledge of sailing is beneficial but not essential.
