Ports and Marine Facilities Safety Code

The Ports and Marine Facilities Safety Code sets safety standards for UK ports. At Parkstone Yacht Club, we are committed to upholding these to ensure safe navigation, protect the environment, and manage risks effectively.
Parkstone Yacht Club is committed to complying fully with the standards laid down in the Ports and Marine Facilities Safety Code (PMSC). The Vice Commodore, as the Duty Holder, is accountable for the management of marine safety under the Code.

Port and Marine Facility Safety Code

The Vice Commodore of Parkstone Yacht Club is the Duty Holder in accordance with the Ports and Marine Facilities Safety Code (PMSC).  They are accountable for Parkstone Yacht Club's compliance with the PMSC and the Yacht Club's performance in ensuring safe marine operations.  The duty holder cannot assign or delegate accountability for compliance with the PMSC.
Under the PMSC, the designated person provides independent assurance on marine safety.  For Parkstone Yacht Club, this is the Haven and Yard Manager at the Royal Motor Yacht Club.
Parkstone Yacht Club's Marine Safety Management Plan takes a forward-looking approach to safety. It addresses a wide range of marine risks, supports technological advancements, improves procedures, promotes a safety culture, ensures staff competence, and encourages collaboration with partners to enhance safety outcomes.

The Port and Marine Facilities Safety Code requires organisations to manage marine operations through a formal risk assessment of navigational hazards.  Organisations must also maintain a Marine Safety Management System (SMS) based on this assessment, ensuring safe and effective management of marine activities within their jurisdiction.
