Wednesday 3 July 2019

(First race of the Wednesday Summer Series)

Todays wind was SE and much less shifty than last week.

After a short postponement, 7 boats set out on a starboard handed olympic course using Ellis Jones, Rebbecks and Stans.

First Wednesday appearance this year of 4020 sailed by Richard Whitworth and Ben Scroggie. This pairing are now committed to the Nationals in Graham Scroggie’s boat so keen for some practise as I don’t think they have sailed a fifteen together before.

Crispin/Steve were locked out above the start line and had to eventually cross in last place. Colin/Chris and Geof/Alan had the best starts but Geof/Alan were always a smidge either higher or faster and left Colin/Chris to play with Richard/Ben. On the first return to the line from Stans, Richard/Ben stood out closer to the channel despite the flood tide and this proved a winning move as they led through the finish line and for the rest of the race.

Crispin worked the right of the beat to close right up on Geof/Alan at the second windward mark and then managed to squeeze past at the end of the run.
Colin/Chris came under pressure from Pete/Paul and succumbed on the final lap.

Results:
1. Richard/Ben
2. Crispin/Steve
3. Geof/Alan
4. Pete/Paul
