2026 Flying Fifteen Supplementary Notice of Race

 
1.         Rules
1.3       Flying Fifteen Class:
1.3.1    International Flying Fifteen Class Rule B15.3 is deleted, as permitted by that rule. No anchor need be carried.
1.3.2.   The protestor is not required to display a red flag. This changes RRS 60.2(a)(1).

6.         Schedule
6.3.1.   Time of Warning Signals listed in NoR Appendix 3. may be changed to accommodate low tides, Mini Series, etc. by Supplementary Sailing Instructions, Class website or by communication in accordance with NoR 3.3.
6.4       If a race is rescheduled according to SNoR 6.3.1 it may be run as a Fleet organised event (possibly with a Gate Start) and without club support boat cover.  In this case, results may be recorded by the competitors taking part in the race and advised to the Fleet Vice Captain by the winner of the race for inclusion in the series. 

10.       Scoring
10.7.    Boats sailing in a Flying Fifteen Open Meeting at another club or representing the fleet in the PYC Team Racing Event at Spinnaker SC may have their average points for the series awarded for a club race that they miss on the day of the Open Meeting, by applying to the Fleet Captain.

Supplementary Sailing Instructions PYC Flying Fifteen Mini Series (the “PYC F15 Mini Series SSI”)

 
1.          Rules
1.2.       Rule Changes:
1.2.5.    Personal flotation devices:RRS 40.1 applies to all competitors.This changes SI 16.6.
1.2.6.    Races shall be started by using the following signals.Times will be taken from the start of the sound signals.The absence of a visual signal may be disregarded.This changes RRS 26.

 1.2.7.   A boat which does not start within five minutes of the starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing.This changes RRS A4 and A5.
1.2.8.    Any boat which is behind the body of the fleet may at the discretion of the Race Committee be awarded the finishing score of its observed position on the course.This changes RRS 28.1, RRS 35 and SI 13.5.Boats so instructed shall (between races) sail directly to the start/finish area or (after second race) return to shore.
1.2.9.    The following other rules have been changed: RRS 36, 61.2, SI 1.2.4, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 8.1 and 8.4
 
3.          Communications with Competitors
3.2.       Communications with Competitors may be made afloat either orally, in writing on a white / black board or by VHF.
3.3.       To alert boats afloat that a communication will be made afloat, flag L may be displayed with one or more sound signals.
 
4.          Signals Made Ashore
4.6.       Starts will be from a Committee Vessel stationed in the vicinity of the leeward mark.There may be no signal ashore.This changes SI 4.1, 4.2 4.3 4.4 and 4.5.
4.7.       The signal ashore specified by SI 4.5 to indicate the Mini Series may not be displayed.
 
5.           Schedule of races
5.3.        F15 Mini Series:
5.3.1      There will be a maximum number of four races sailed back-to-back.
5.3.2.     The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 11:55 local time.
5.3.3.     The target time for the first boat to sail the course in each race is 30 minutes
 
7.           Courses
7.2.        The course will be an Ad Hoc Windward-Leeward (“W/L”) with no spreader mark. A leeward gate may be used.
7.3.        Marks may be moveable inflatable marks or fixed marks or any combination.
7.4.        The Start/Finish line must be crossed at the end of each lap.
7.5.        All marks shall be left to port unless the Race Committee indicates otherwise
7.6.        The course shall continue until shortened.
 
8.           Signalling the course to be sailed
8.5.        F15 Mini Series
8.5.1      VHF, Oral or Indicator boards may be used. This changes SI 8.1.

12.         The Start
12.8.      F15 Mini Series
12.8.1.   The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the Committee Vessel and the starting mark which will be a Dan Buoy with orange flag, or any other mark designated verbally or by VHF

Gate Start

 

12.         The start
12.8.      Gate starts: the following system shall apply:
12.8.1.   In the absence of a Race Committee to man the Platform or a Committee Vessel, races may be started with a Gate Start
12.8.2.   The Fleet Captain shall be the Race Officer, or in their absence the Race Officer shall be nominated by the Fleet members participating in the gate start racing
12.8.3.   The Race Officer will define the Course to be sailed, the Starting Mark around which the Gate Start will be based, and will nominate the Pathfinder boat for the first race.
12.8.4.   The Pathfinder boat  for the subsequent race will be the third placed boat in the preceding race, except when she is unable to race or was Pathfinder in the preceding race.  The Pathfinder will then be the fourth boat in the preceding race and so on.
12.8.5.   The Gate Start sequence will be signalled by the crew of the nominated pathfinder boat using sound signals for a 5 minute count down as per the table below. Times shall be taken from the start of the sound signals.  There will not be any visual signals.  This changes RRS Rule 26.​

12.8.6.   At approximately 10 seconds before the starting signal, the Pathfinder shall pass close to the Starting Mark travelling at full speed close-hauled on port tack and will maintain this point of sailing for at least 45 seconds after the start signal during which period the Pathfinder shall have right of way over all other starters. 
12.8.7.   At and after the starting signal, boats may start by passing between the Pathfinder and the Starting Mark, leaving at least one boat length behind the Pathfinder.  The start line will close 45 seconds after the start signal.
12.8.8.   Any boat which impedes the progress of the Pathfinder during the start shall (regardless of RRS 44) be disqualified without a hearing. For the purposes of this SI the word of the Pathfinder or of the Race Officer shall suffice. This changes RRS A5.
12.8.9.   45 seconds after the starting signal, the Pathfinder shall be released to join the race.
12.8.10. Any boat which is on the port side of the Pathfinder while the Gate is open has not crossed the starting line from the course side and needs to return to do so by rounding the Starting Mark leaving it on her port side.  Boats purporting to start after the Pathfinder has been released may be accepted as late starters at the discretion of the Race Officer.
